The February 6, 2016 episode of PBS News Hour included a story on Accountable Care Organizations (ACO’s) and featured a segment highlighting our Partner’s Mobile Observation Unit (PMOU), an innovative program that deploys Nurse Practitioners (NPs) on an urgent basis to patients’ homes to address medical concerns while helping them avoid ED visits and/or hospitalizations. The segment contain an interview with Dana Sheer, Partners HealthCare at Home's Director of Advanced Clinical Programs, and one of our PMOU patients.
One of the goals of the Affordable Care Act was to develop organizations that offer doctors and hospitals a deal: In exchange for more efficient care for Medicare recipients, providers receive a share of the savings as a bonus. Now that ACOs have become embedded in the health care system, are they really working? Special correspondent Jackie Judd reports.
